Back in June the Code Enforcement Office sent out letters and application forms to all property owners who own rental property within the Town of Orono. The letter asked that all rental units be registered on the appropriate form and include the rental fee of $25 per unit. Those rental registrations are due by September 1st.

If you have not sent in your appliction forms and the required fees for your rental units, please do so now.

If you need another application form, you can download them from our website. We will need an application form for each property location that is rented out.

Three years ago the Town adopted a Rental Registration Program that required all rental properties to be registered with the Town. This includes filing the appropriate application form and a fee of $25 per rental unit.

The ordinance allows the renting of units to no more than 3 unrelated people or a traditional family setting. You must include a sketch with the application indicating parking areas and where trash recepticles are located.

These must be done by September 1st of each year. The applications are now being mailed out and must be returned by September 1st. Please remit your applications and fees to the Code Enforcement Office. If you have questions about filling in the form, please feel free to contact us. Applications may be downloaded from our website, the can be faxed or emailed to you as well as traditional mail. Please take a moment to fill out your application and return it along with the required fee. Thank You!

Street & Stream Cleanup

STREAM & STREET CLEAN UP 2011

Orono’s sixth annual Stream & Street Cleanup Day was held on Saturday, May 14, 2010. The volunteer crew was slightly smaller than last year, most likely due to the threat of rain. However, approximately forty-five local citizens, business people, Scout groups, and Town employees joined in to help remove trash from our streams and surrounding areas. Orono resident and stormwater expert Phil Ruck gave an informative presentation about the importance of keeping our waterways clean, and really inspired everyone to forge ahead despite the hovering gray clouds.

Over twenty extra large bags of trash were collected, along with miscellaneous items like tires, rusted bicycles, bottles, cans, and even a microwave! Unfortunately, a great number of cigarette butts were also found. While the proper disposal of these items is a good thing, it is unfortunate that we’re still gathering that much trash every year. As a reminder, Orono residents who are not sure about how to dispose of trash or other unwanted items should call the Town Offices for information about how to do so.

The morning concluded with everyone enjoying hot dogs and hamburgers prepared by the Town’s Fire Department, the distribution of thank-you raffle prizes, and a special appearance by Sparky the Fire Dog. As usual, Town staff member Ruth Vaughan managed the clean-up event, which could not have occurred without her hard work and dedication. A special thank you to everyone who volunteered, and to the following businesses for participation and prizes donated:

Bell’s IGA Dysarts Black Bear Hydro
